The Spanish legend rider Alberto Contador has won the inaugural edition of the Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro Yangtze River Delta Open (Shanghai) legends ride, ahead of Alessandro Ballan and Chen Long who completed the podium. 

The first ever Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro in China was held on Dec 7th and 8th in Shanghai, Qingpu Disctrict and saw 3000 riders take part in a ride alongside 16 all-time cycling legends including Alberto Contador, Ivan Basso, Andy Schleck, Ballan Alessandro, Bettini Paolo, Joaquim Purito Rodriguez, Igor Astarloa, Oscar Freire, Filippo Pozzato, Robbie McEwen, Franck Schleck, Stuart O’ Grady, Sylvain Chavanel, Gilberto Simoni, Max Lelli, Robbie McEwen and George Hincapie.

All legend riders participated during the week end of cycling in the Family Fun Ride on Dec 7th and the Legend Road race on Dec 8th.

The aim of the event is to create a great classic for amateurs and be able to attract not only people from China but also riders from abroad and to let them enjoy this beautiful race and to experience the beauty of this region.

Giro d’Italia Ride like a Pro is a unique and exciting cycling experience. It is an event created to bring a new event concept for the cycling fans and those who love the sport & the Italian atmosphere. With both competitive & non-competitive elements, its goal is to enable all the fans to have an experience “riding like a pro and living the Italian style.”

The idea is closely linked to the Giro d’Italia and gives the possibility to make the professional cycling experience available to everyone, celebrating the values of Italian sport and particularly cycling: sacrifice, physical effort, respect, over 100 years of “pink” tradition along with the innovation of a race moving with the times.
