On April 3rd, the executive committee of the Yangtze River Delta’s ecological green integrated development demonstration zone, jointly with the regions of Qingpu, Wujiang, and Jiashan, officially announced that the 2023 Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro Yangtze River Delta Open will return on May 20-21, 2023. Registration began at 12pm on April 4th and all entries sold out in two hours.

In 2019, the demonstration zone for the integration of the Yangtze River Delta was formally unveiled, and the Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro Yangtze River Delta Open was made known to the public. The demonstration zone has been making important achievements since then. The “2023 Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro Yangtze River Delta Open” will bring more excitement and charm to the demonstration zone, showcase the urban development areas at Qingpu, Wujiang, and Jiashan, and engage an increasing number of cycling enthusiasts by not only developing Giro’s social media campaign but also conducting innovative activities, to lead a trend of outdoor cycling sports with an emphasis on ecological priority and national health.

In the mode of tripartite linkage, Qingpu district takes the lead in implementing the Shanghai Sports 14th Five-Year Plan, creating high-quality international sports IPs, integrating sports into people’s lives, and driving attention to the cultural, scenic, economic, touristic, and emerging concepts of the demonstration zone. It has provided both local cycling enthusiasts and those around the globe with a broader stage for competition vitality of the region.

What makes the 2023 Giro d’Italia Ride Like a Pro Yangtze River Delta Open different this year is that it will be upgraded to an international Class-C cycling event in China. Participants will still pass through three demonstration zones: starting and ending in Qingpu District, Shanghai, and then Jiashan County, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, and Wujiang District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Participants will be able to enjoy the sightseeing at the Yangtze River Delta demonstration zone during its golden season.

The diverse event settings make the event more flexible for participants. The multi-category circuit races, family fun rides, and youth races on the first day of the competition meet the needs of athletes from different age groups. At the same time, the well-planned routes allow participants to feel the passion of sports during short circuit rides. The second day’s road race has now been categorized into Competitive, Elite, and Open. The 88km ride will start from the “Dianshan Lake-Yuandang Ecological area”, passing through Zhujiajiao and the Taipu River, and then crossing the ecological green integrated development demonstration zone of the Yangtze River Delta, howcasing the construction achievements over the past three years, and making professional athletes and cycling enthusiasts to experience the world’s top-level competition as well.

A festival that features a boutique market exhibiting a variety of handcrafted accessories, foods, as well as various performances are planned on stage. The children’s balance bike will also make a comeback at the carnival, allowing adults and children to experience the joy of cycling together. We are having the carnival to integrate the competition into various aspects of people’s daily lives, including but not limited to sports promotion, lifestyle, travel, food, and parent-child activities.
